Kristin Scott Thomas thought her classic ’90s rom-com ‘wasn’t funny at all’

Kristin Scott Thomas has revealed she didn’t find Four Weddings and a Funeral humorous when she starred in it. She played Fiona in the popular ’90s film, which centers on a group of friends navigating a series of weddings and funerals.

Though now considered a classic comedy that helped launch the careers of Scott Thomas, Hugh Grant, and writer Richard Curtis, the actress originally doubted the film’s chances of success.

My friends call me ‘Polly Pessimist,’ she shared on This Morning. She remembered attending a private screening of her film in Paris, sitting completely alone in the empty theater. At the time, she thought it wasn’t funny and that no one would get it.

That’s why seeing movies in a theater is so special. There’s nothing quite like sharing the experience with an audience and feeling their reactions – it’s just a really enjoyable, collective feeling, and it’s hard to beat.

Scott Thomas appears in the new movie My Mother’s Wedding, which she also directed, co-wrote, and co-stars in. The film features a talented cast including James Fleet (known from Four Weddings), Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller, and Freida Pinto.

I was reading an interview with Scott Thomas about the movie, and he described it so perfectly! He called it “a comedy about a tragedy,” and then joked that it has everything – a wedding and a family disaster! Honestly, it sounds amazing.

I was so excited to hear that Scott Thomas is going to be in a new production of The Cherry Orchard! It’s playing at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London starting in October, and I already have my tickets!
