It’s a completely official experience for the FIFA World Cup 2026, letting you manage a national team leading up to the tournament in the US, Canada, and Mexico. It’s perfect timing with the real thing happening this summer!

This update includes revamped national teams, official FIFA licensing, improved squad management tools, and other exciting features. Here’s a breakdown of everything new.

Football Manager 26 International Management update: All you need to know

FIFA World Cup 2026 comes to FM26

The biggest new feature in this update is the officially licensed FIFA World Cup 2026 experience. For the first time, Football Manager has partnered with FIFA to include authentic tournament visuals, like official branding, balls, kits, broadcast graphics, and trophy celebrations. This is all part of FIFA’s broader plan to enhance the digital side of football.

After the update, you’ll be able to start a new career focused on the World Cup. You can choose to begin in May 2026, allowing time for friendly matches and team preparation, or jump straight into the tournament with a June start date that begins right before the first game.

International management gets major upgrades

Football Manager 2026 is updating how international teams are managed. You can now create a provisional squad – a larger group of players you’re considering – before finalizing your team for tournaments.

We’ve improved the National Pool and National Shortlist features to help you better follow player performance, identify potential dual-nationality players, and manage your team’s needs. Now, you can directly communicate with players about their selection chances, opportunities for promotion to the youth team, and even their retirement plans.

We’re adding scouting tools for national teams, allowing you to find promising international players just like you do when recruiting for clubs.

New match preparation and coaching tools

This update also lets you do more to prepare tactically for international games. Before each match, you can now choose specific areas to focus on – like improving your attacking play, strengthening your defense, or working on set pieces.

National soccer teams are now hiring dedicated set-piece specialists, and our data analysis platform is growing to offer even more in-depth insights into international teams.

Other updates on offer

Having the official FIFA license enhances the World Cup experience with realistic details. You’ll see official tournament graphics, menus, and team kits, plus the authentic Adidas Trionda match ball and new cinematic scenes during matches.

If you win the tournament, you’ll see a special celebration with your team captain lifting the trophy. Football Manager 2026 will also introduce the ability to manage women’s national teams – a first for the series! This means you can now experience managing a women’s international team in Football Manager.
