Joy Behar temporarily steps back from ‘The View,’ as she takes her play to London

Joy Behar, known for her role on “The View,” is swapping the talk show table for the stage, as she’s set to perform in a London theater.

The comedian, a long-time host of the talk show, is temporarily stepping down to take her play, “My First Ex-Husband,” on its first international tour. The 83-year-old announced her leave on Tuesday during an appearance on “Behind the Table,” a podcast related to “The View.”

Behar announced on the podcast that she’s traveling to Paris this week. After a week, she’ll take the Chunnel train to London, where she’ll be performing her play, ‘My First Ex-Husband,’ at the Boulevard Theatre in the West End for another week.

The Federal Communications Commission is questioning whether talk shows like “The View” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” should be exempt from rules requiring equal airtime for different political viewpoints.

Joy Behar has already filmed a few episodes of ‘The Weekend View’ before taking some time off. She won’t be on the show for the next two weeks, and her last appearance on the regular weekday episodes will be this Thursday.

While Joy Behar is away, other familiar faces will appear on “The View.” Producer Brian Teta announced on a podcast that Sheryl Underwood, Kara Swisher, and Ana Navarro will be guests in the coming weeks. Whoopi Goldberg, a regular on the show, will also be there on Fridays, even though that’s normally her day off.

Teta playfully suggested that Whoopi Goldberg hadn’t been told yet, but he would inform her about her new role.

As the talk show world changes and more celebrities choose podcasts, Jennifer Hudson will return for another season, unlike Kelly Clarkson and Sherri Shepherd.

Joy Behar’s play, “My First Ex-Husband,” premiered off-Broadway in New York City in 2025 after being in development for twelve years. The show features a changing group of performers sharing humorous and messy stories about their past relationships. Behar says the play will be opening soon, and she and Jackie Hoffman will be the American storytellers, while British actresses act out the scenes.
