Peter Parker Surprisingly Returns In Prime Video’s Spider-Man TV Show Before Brand New Day

Tom Holland will return as Spider-Man in a new movie in 2026. But before then, a version of Peter Parker has already appeared in a new Marvel series on Prime Video. This Peter Parker is the most well-known and original Spider-Man, and he’s the same character we’ve seen in all the live-action Spider-Man films so far.

The 2021 film Spider-Man: No Way Home was a special treat for fans, bringing together three different live-action Spider-Men – Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland – on screen. Tom Holland will return as Spider-Man in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which will also feature Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, and other characters.

There are many different versions of Spider-Man, and the animated Spider-Verse movies celebrate that idea by showcasing multiple Spider-People from different universes, with Miles Morales taking center stage. A new series seemed to be continuing this trend, but it now appears the original Peter Parker is also part of the story.

The new show, Spider-Noir, features Nicolas Cage as The Spider and premiered on Prime Video on May 27th. This Marvel series takes place in its own separate universe, and Cage plays Ben Reilly instead of Peter Parker – a departure from the comic books and the Spider-Verse movies, where he voiced a Peter Parker version of the character. It appears this show might also be focusing on a different Spider-Man origin story.

Spider-Noir’s Peter Parker Reveal Is The Perfect Surprise

Be warned, this article contains spoilers for season 1 of Spider-Noir. Throughout the eight episodes, everyone refers to Cage’s character as Ben Reilly. However, the Prime Video series has a surprising twist regarding the hero’s true identity. In episode 6, Freckles, a character Ben helped during the war, reveals something unexpected. He mentions that if Ben hadn’t changed his name after they met in France, he would have sought him out for help much sooner when he began to age rapidly due to a mutation. The series doesn’t reveal what Ben’s original name was.

For Spider-Man fans, that scene strongly suggests the story behind Ben Reilly. It reveals that “Ben Reilly” is actually a false identity Peter Parker adopted after being bitten by a mutated spider in France. He changed his name to hide from people who witnessed the event and could exploit his powers. This explains why Freckles’ mother tries to use him in episode 6 – she wants to create a cure based on his mutation.

Peter Parker’s 2026 Return Before Spider-Man: Brand New Day Raises Excitement For The MCU Movie

Although Spider-Noir barely mentions Peter Parker by name, only alluding to him, the series still builds anticipation for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Even the subtle suggestion that Cage’s Ben Reilly is actually Peter Parker changes how you view the entire show, making it feel like a separate Spider-Man story with a fresh, alternate take on the classic hero. It proves how creatively different live-action Spider-Man can be, all while still focusing on Peter Parker, just before Holland’s return to the movies.

With Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the character is entering a fresh chapter. Director Destin Daniel Cretton is using more practical effects and innovative camera work than previous Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man films, signaling a greater ambition for the movie. Following the success of Spider-Noir’s unique, darker take on Peter Parker, the potential for Spider-Man: Brand New Day to build on that success and introduce exciting new elements to Spider-Man’s story is incredibly promising and feels like a natural progression for the franchise.
