A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder adds major new characters in season 2 twist

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder season one spoilers follow.

The second season of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is set to be even more intense, with Pip Fitz-Amobi tackling a new, risky case. The show will also feature several new faces and cast members who will impact the town of Little Kilton.

The new season of the show is based on Holly Jackson’s second book, Good Girl, Bad Blood, and starts just weeks after the shocking revelations about the deaths of Andie Bell and Sal Singh at the end of season one.

Emma Myers returns as Pip, the teenage detective, still dealing with the difficult aftermath of her previous case. The town is still recovering from the arrest of Elliot Ward for the murder of Sal, but another person is about to be held accountable for their actions as well.

The second season begins with Max Hastings facing trial for allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting multiple women. Several people are prepared to testify against him, but Pip learns that a crucial witness, Becca Bell, has unexpectedly decided not to testify.

What to Read Next

Just as Pip tries to leave crime-solving behind, she’s pulled into a new mystery. The second season not only brings back familiar characters, but also introduces several new ones who play key roles in the developing plot.

Eden H Davies joins the cast as Jamie Reynolds, a musician from the town whose unexplained vanishing is the main focus of the new season. While Jamie appeared in previous episodes, this season puts him front and center. As Eden H Davies explained to the BBC, Jamie was previously a background character, but now “he’s at the heart of Pip’s investigation.”

At first, Pip wonders if Jamie’s disappearance is linked to the trial of Max Hastings, as Jamie was also set to testify. But according to Emma Myers, Pip handles things differently this time, learning from the painful events of the first season. Pip is hesitant to get involved in the search for Jamie because past investigations – while solving the murders of Andie and Sal – unintentionally caused problems for several people, and Pip doesn’t want a repeat of that.

This season welcomes Misia Butler as Stanley Forbes, a journalist looking into the mysteries of Little Kilton. Stanley’s investigation is likely to create more trouble for the town, as the media begins to focus on it once again.

Jack Rowan will be playing Charlie Green, a new neighbor who gets caught up in the search for Jamie. Freddie England joins the cast as Robin Hasting, Max’s cousin, and his relationship with Lauren causes some friction within the friend group.

Season two revolves around a central mystery, but the emotional consequences of the previous season are equally significant. The story heavily features Pip dealing with the trauma she experienced during her last investigation, and she starts a podcast about the case hoping to make sense of everything.

The podcast causes significant friction between Pip and her close friend, Cara. According to Emma, Pip, while a good friend, can be narrow-minded and sometimes struggles to see things from different perspectives. Pip didn’t fully consider the impact of releasing a podcast about Cara’s father while they were both still in school, and it ultimately damaged their friendship, as it allowed others to potentially mock Cara.

Asha Banks, who plays Cara Ward, says the new season starts with Cara dealing with a lot of pain because her father, Elliot, is in prison. According to Asha, Cara spends most of the second season feeling emotionally distant from her friends.

Okay, so playing as Cara this season is tough. She’s still really haunted by everything that happened in season one, and all the secrets that came out. Honestly, it’s a struggle for her, especially with Pip. We’re trying to figure out what our relationship even is and how to move forward, and she’s feeling really isolated from the rest of the group. It’s like, she’s just taking things one day at a time, just trying to survive, you know?

Season two of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder promises a darker, more complex mystery than viewers initially anticipated. Pip is grappling with guilt, strained relationships, and a new disappearance, making it increasingly difficult for her to determine who she can rely on.

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder airs on Netflix and BBC Three from Wednesday, 27 May.
