Megan Cusack, known for her role on Call the Midwife, has shared what she’s been up to since leaving the show. After playing Nancy Corrigan and finishing her run on the BBC period drama last year, she hinted she’s pursuing new challenges outside of what she’s used to.
In a recent interview with Radio Times, actress Cusack explained what she’s been up to since her last television role, sharing that she’s now focusing on theatre work.
“I made the choice [to leave Call the Midwife] because I wanted to try and get into theatre again,” she said, before adding: “But it doesn’t mean that it wasn’t heartbreaking not being there [anymore].”

Since departing from his previous role, Cusack appeared with Nicola Coughlan of Bridgerton in a production of The Playboy of the Western World. He played the character Susan Brady in the play, which was performed at the National Theatre’s Lyttelton Theatre from December 2025 to February 2026.
Cusack also mentioned the wonderful support she’d gotten from her previous colleagues, explaining that Georgie Glen, Linda Bassett, Rebecca Gethings, and Annabelle Apsion had all come to see one of her recent performances.

Speaking about leaving the set of Call the Midwife and adjusting to life afterwards, Cusack described it as a strange transition. Because filming takes up seven months of the year, you spend so much time with your co-stars that they often feel more like family than your own loved ones. It’s easy to start feeling like the set is your true home.
I cried a lot on my last day. I was really upset, but it helped knowing I’d see everyone again. It’s just a big shift in my work situation, really.
Fans of Call the Midwife will have to wait a bit longer for new episodes, as there won’t be a Christmas special this year. Instead, the BBC is releasing a three-part series that explores the show’s history during World War II’s Blitz.
The new series will focus on the beginnings of the careers of beloved characters like Sister Monica Joan (played by Judy Parfitt), Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter), and Evangelina (Pam Ferris).

After the new prequel series, a Call the Midwife movie is planned. Set in 1972 and filmed overseas, the movie will continue the stories of familiar characters from the show.
Although a specific date hasn’t been announced, the producers of Call the Midwife have confirmed the show will return for a 16th season, along with two more Christmas specials, sometime in the future.
Call the Midwife airs on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
