Summary

  • Dior enlisted British artist Alex Chinneck to take over the window displays at its New York and Los Angeles flagships
  • Now on view at House of Dior New York and Beverly Hills, the installations each city’s local street culture through a surrealist lens, warping urban icons and symbols into playful sculptures

British artist Alex Chinneck has created playful, eye-catching installations for Dior stores. Known for his public art that playfully distorts how we see cities, he’s now brought his unique style to Dior’s New York and Los Angeles locations, creating a special experience inspired by both cities.

Dior’s New York storefront is now displaying nine new sculptures that offer a dreamlike take on the energy of Madison Avenue. The artwork includes a vibrant explosion of tangled traffic lights, street lamps playfully shaped like ribbons, and a taxi seemingly melting into the building’s glass exterior.

The Los Angeles exhibit also captures the city’s glamorous spirit with five pieces. It especially highlights car culture and striking vehicle designs, including a bright red car dramatically looped in mid-air. One piece features a mannequin gently swaying from a curved streetlight, evoking the city’s famous movie-making history and atmosphere.

To celebrate the one-year anniversaries of its New York and Beverly Hills boutiques—both designed by Peter Marino—Dior is showcasing new artwork by Alex Chinneck. The House of Dior describes these installations as beautiful expressions of its American legacy.
