After Making Over $800M, New Paddington Movie Officially Confirms Director & Writer 2 Years Later

StudioCanal is moving forward with a fourth Paddington movie, about two years after the third film came out in cinemas.

Sources say Dougal Wilson is likely to direct the fourth Paddington movie, having made his feature film debut with Paddington in Peru. Rosie Alison, who first championed the idea of bringing Michael Bond’s Paddington Bear to life as a live-action/CG film over two decades ago, will return as a producer through Heyday Films.

Paddington Receives New Writers for Fourth Movie

As a huge fan of the Paddington films, I was really interested to hear about the creative team for the next one. While Paul King won’t be directing this time, it’s exciting that Armando Iannucci – the genius behind Veep and The Thick of It – is writing the screenplay, along with Simon Blackwell, who also worked on those shows. It’s a fresh team, and I’m definitely curious to see what they bring to Paddington’s world!

A fourth Paddington movie and a new TV show were both revealed in September 2024. Both are planned for release in 2028, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the Paddington franchise.

The Paddington films have been incredibly successful, earning over $808 million around the world. Critics love them too – all three movies have received scores above 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. For a short time, Paddington 2 was even the highest-rated film on the website.
