Yerin Ha and Luke Thompson, stars of Bridgerton, have talked about a key scene in the upcoming fourth season and how a shocking request from Benedict Bridgerton changed the dynamic between him and Sophie. In an interview with Digital Spy, the actors explained how the moment Benedict asked Sophie to be his mistress abruptly ended their intimacy and showed a new side of his character.
Ha described the moment as shocking, then explained to Thompson that it felt that way because of the genuine passion and commitment Thompson brought to the scene.
Ha went on to describe that scene as a sobering moment for her character Sophie.

It felt like a sudden awakening. She got too comfortable and realized they weren’t compatible, thinking their connection was unrealistic. Now she’s blaming herself again.
The actor who plays Benedict described how his character was completely taken by surprise when his proposal didn’t go as planned. He explained, ‘He’s really shocked by her reaction. He doesn’t immediately think anything is wrong or that everything is okay.’
He realizes he’s messed up, but he’s also strangely convinced his plan will succeed. He truly believes he can get everything he wants without any negative consequences – that he can have it all.

Thompson added that he enjoys the moment because it’s unexpected for a character who usually seems so relaxed.
This shows a more vulnerable and anxious side to his personality, which is something we haven’t seen before. It’s great because it makes the character feel more complete. We finally get to see his flaws and weaknesses, and they’re right there on display.

Thompson went on to share why a Bridgerton sex scene is about more than just fulfilling expectations.
He explained that what makes Bridgerton stand out is how its intimate scenes actually move the plot forward. He specifically pointed to the scene between Sophie and Benedict, noting it didn’t feel gratuitous. The setting – a staircase – and the contrast between their social classes added a lot to the moment.
The intimacy feels natural and meaningful, truly reflecting their connection, not just a required plot point. The emotional groundwork is already there, making the moment feel genuine and well-deserved.

She described filming the staircase scene, explaining that their intimacy coordinator, Lizzy Talbot, helped choreograph it like a dance.
She’s amazing at creating choreography that truly looks sensual. What seems appealing in theory doesn’t always translate well on camera, and having her involved on set is a huge asset.
You can currently watch the first part of Bridgerton season 3 on Netflix. The second part will be released on February 26th. All three seasons of Bridgerton, plus the series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, are also available to stream.
