Kathy Griffin is opening up about why she doesn’t like Jon Hamm.
This week, the 65-year-old comedian talked on Owen Thiele’s ‘In Your Dreams’ podcast about comments the 54-year-old actor supposedly made to her in the past.
Griffin remembered being interrupted by Hamm, supposedly while she was talking to Jack Nicholson at a dinner party hosted by the late talent agent, Sue Mengers.
She said Nicholson was discussing the film The Departed when the actor from Your Friends & Neighbors came up to her and made a rude comment about her age.
She said that Hammy, who was intoxicated, leaned in close and repeatedly told her she was getting old, questioning what it felt like and even suggesting her Emmy awards weren’t legitimate.
I told him, “No, Hammy, and you haven’t even won an Emmy!” Then I turned away to talk to Jack, who hadn’t heard a word of it. But I was really upset with Hammy and never let it go, she explained.
The Daily Mail has reached out to reps for Hamm and Griffin for comment.
Griffin mentioned she was especially thrilled to speak with Nicholson, as he rarely discusses his work.
She joked, ‘He usually talks about who he’s f**king, which is also interesting.’
The media personality recalled that Jack Nicholson was discussing potentially playing a character like Whitey Bulger, a notorious criminal who had just been captured after years as a fugitive. The personality immediately thought, “This is exactly what I’ve always wanted to ask him about!”
But the exchange at the intimate gathering was soured by Hamm.
The story had to have taken place at least 15 years ago, as Mengers died at age 79 in 2011.
Okay, so everyone was talking about this supposed fight with Griffin, and she totally threw shade saying he hadn’t won an Emmy yet! But honestly, it just makes his eventual win so much sweeter! He finally got one in 2015 – a Lead Actor in a Drama Series award for Mad Men! I mean, it was about time, right? He deserved it, and it totally proved her wrong. I was screaming at the TV when they announced his name!
He was nominated for two other Emmys that year, after 13 previous losses.
Griffin’s bitter memory of Hamm came up after host Thiele asked who was on her ‘hit list’ for 2026.
After naming Donald Trump as number one on the list, she shifted her focus to the Fargo actor.
‘I’ll pick weird people like Jon Hamm,’ she began, adding, ‘Nobody hates Jon Hamm except me.’
She shared that she once dated someone who was in a fantasy football league, and she felt like a player named Hammy was disrespectful to her partner.
She admitted it seemed like a poor character choice, but also praised the actor as incredibly talented.
Griffin added, ‘I hate to admit it – he’s even funny,’ before Thiele interjected, ‘And hot.’
The redhead comedienne agreed: ‘And hot. Of course he’s hot.’
