So, I just heard that Jamie Bell is stepping into the shoes of Duke Shelby for the new Peaky Blinders series, which is awesome! But that’s not all – they’ve also had to recast another major character for the show, which is going to be set in the 1950s. It’s a bit of a shake-up, but I’m still super excited to see what they do with it.
So, the Peaky Blinders story isn’t over! Steven Knight is continuing it, and it’s moving past World War II – picking up after the events of The Immortal Man. It looks like we’ll be seeing a whole new crew of Peaky Blinders led by Duke, which is awesome!
It was previously announced that Charlie Heaton, known for his role in Stranger Things, would appear in the spin-off. Now it’s been confirmed he’ll be playing Charles, a member of the Shelby family.

Charles, whose parents were Thomas and Grace, didn’t have a close relationship with his father and was primarily raised by Lizzie starting in the mid-1930s. Being the half-brother of Duke, he has some connections to the Peaky Blinders.
The character Charles Shelby, a veteran of a brutal war – much of which he fought undercover – is now trying to settle into a normal life. We’re getting our first look at actor Jack Heaton in the role.
What to Read Next
It’s been years since Charles last saw his half-brother, Duke. He cut off all contact with the Peaky Blinders and abandoned their wild way of life. But the question remains: can you truly escape your family?
I remember Charles being played by a few different actors throughout the original show! Billy Marwood was the first one I really noticed, showing up in season three. Then Jensen Clarke took on the role for a couple of seasons, from four to six, and Billy Jenkins even stepped in as Charles during season six too. It was a bit confusing keeping track, but cool to see different takes on the character!
The character reappeared in The Immortal Man, a story set in the 1940s. Alfie Thomas Bland played Charles, a soldier fighting in World War II, in that film.

I’m so excited! Along with Bell and Heaton, Jessica Brown Findlay, Lashana Lynch, and Lucy Karczewski are joining the new series. We don’t know what roles they’ll be playing just yet, but I can’t wait to find out!
The latest season of Peaky Blinders takes place ten years after World War Two, and focuses on the fierce competition to rebuild Birmingham. The show’s description promises a city full of both incredible opportunities and serious danger.
Peaky Blinders airs on BBC One and streams on Netflix.
