Noel and Liam Gallagher, famous for their support of Manchester City, have always been open about their love for the team. When Pep Guardiola became the manager in July 2016, after 10 years with the club, his very first interview was with Noel Gallagher, the guitarist from the iconic Manchester band, Oasis.
Liam won’t be the last to say anything positive about Guardiola’s reign with Man City, but he was quick to offer his input on the news that the manager was leaving. Instead of issuing a sad tribute, Liam Gallagher tweeted like the rock star he is.
Okay, so the artist basically posted a tribute – it said “HE CAME HE CONQUERED LONG LIVE THE KING THANK YOU FOR THE GOOD TIMES.” It’s clearly about celebrating someone, and then they added “PEP MCFC CTID LG x” which, as a Man City fan, I instantly knew was a shout-out to Pep Guardiola, the team (MCFC), and the phrase ‘Come On City!’ (CTID). The ‘LG’ part probably refers to someone’s initials, maybe a personal message. Overall, it felt like a really heartfelt goodbye or thank you to Pep after everything he’s done.
Oasis’ Liam Gallagher drops a shoutout to outgoing Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola
While Liam is the more outspoken on social media, Noel Gallagher was the more seen at Man City matches. He was there often enough that Oasis fans weren’t going to get in the way of him enjoying what he was watching. After all, Noel was a fan just like they were.

Pep Guardiola has brought tremendous success and excitement to Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium. During his time as manager, he guided the team to six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, five League Cups, and the Champions League title in 2023. While it may be difficult for anyone to match that level of achievement, there’s speculation that his former assistant, Enzo Maresca, could be his replacement.
Oasis fans probably aren’t focused on this right now, but it’s notable that Manchester City, despite all their success since 2016, won’t repeat as Premier League champions. This is the only time during Guardiola’s tenure that the team has failed to win the league in consecutive seasons; they’ll finish second this year.
Even though Pep Guardiola is leaving, some things won’t change. Liam and Noel Gallagher will still be avidly following Manchester City, tweeting about the team they’ve supported since childhood and attending games, always hoping for more championships. However, it might be harder to achieve the same level of success they enjoyed under Guardiola’s leadership.
So, I heard the news on the City website – the manager’s moving into a new role! Basically, he’s becoming a Global Ambassador for the club, which means he’ll be sharing his expertise with other teams in the City Football Group. He’ll be giving them technical advice, helping out with special projects, and working on different partnerships. It’s cool to know he’s still going to be involved, even if he’s not managing the first team anymore.
In other words, while Guardiola won’t be managing the English Premier League team, he isn’t completely going away. That might only happen when he gets an official exit interview with Noel Gallagher.
