- AMD announced a $3,999 USD starting price for the Ryzen AI Halo developer workstation with pre-orders opening in June 2026
- The compact system challenges the NVIDIA DGX Spark by offering Windows compatibility and up to 128GB of LPDDR5X memory
- The companion Ryzen AI Max 400 series processors support up to 192GB of unified memory to run massive AI models locally
AMD has revealed the price for its new Ryzen AI Halo workstation, a powerful desktop computer designed for AI development. It will be available in June 2026 for $3,999. AMD is positioning this machine to compete with NVIDIA’s DGX Spark, offering significant AI processing power right on your desk. This launch could be a game-changer for creators and developers who currently depend on costly cloud computing services.
Despite its small size – just 150 by 150 by 43 millimeters – this base model offers impressive performance. It’s powered by the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor, which has 16 of the latest Zen 5 cores and a powerful XDNA 2 NPU delivering 50 TOPS of processing power. It also includes 128GB of fast LPDDR5X memory. A key advantage over some NVIDIA competitors is its compatibility with both Windows and Linux, thanks to its x86-64 architecture – it works with either operating system immediately.
In addition to its new workstation, the company also announced its Ryzen AI Max 400 series processors. The top-of-the-line model, the Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495, boasts 16 cores and can reach speeds up to 5 GHz. It includes 80MB of cache and a more powerful AI processing unit (NPU) capable of 55 TOPS. Graphics have also been significantly improved with 40 RDNA 3.5 processing units.
The new processor family is built around its ability to handle large amounts of memory. The most powerful versions support a remarkable 192GB of unified memory, with up to 160GB usable for graphics (VRAM). This huge memory capacity makes the 400 series the first x86 processor for everyday computers that can run complex AI models – those with over 300 billion parameters – directly on the device, without needing to rely on remote servers or data centers for demanding machine learning tasks.
This system is designed for professional developers who want to save money in the long run, despite a higher initial cost. Using AI agents remotely can often cost around $750 a month. However, by running these tasks on your own hardware, you’ll recoup the investment in about six months. The more expensive package includes pre-loaded software and access to a developer program, making it faster and easier to get started.
