This week’s highlights include a “special” wartime drama starring Bill Nighy, as well as a recent underrated gem featuring screen legend June Squibb.
Here are five of the best to keep an eye out for, plus a few more movies to check out while you’re at it.

Best movie new to Netflix this week
Thelma: Boasting a near perfect Rotten Tomatoes score, this 2024 indie hit was called “an absolute joy ride from beginning to end” by Lady Geeks Media.
June Squibb (in her first leading role in her 90s) stars as the titular nonagenarian, who becomes the victim of a phone scam before deciding to hunt down the perpetrators – enlisting the help of her grandson and a friend along the way.
The movie comes from writer and director Josh Margolin, who was inspired by his own grandmother’s experience. Fred Hechinger, Richard Roundtree, Clark Gregg and Parker Posey also star.
