ITV’s hit Morecambe-set detective drama confirms return with “compelling” new story

Production is underway for the sixth season of a popular ITV crime series, and some initial details about the exciting main plot have been revealed.

The Bay first aired in 2019 and recently concluded its fifth season in March 2025. Fans will be happy to hear that a new season is coming soon.

Marsha Thomason returns as DS Jenn Townsend, the lead in Morecambe MIU, a role she’s held since 2022. Daniel Ryan, Andrew Dowbiggin, and Olwen May will also be back for the show.

Suzanne Packer, Anne Townsend, Tara Lynne O’Neill, and Jacob Butler are returning to the show, and Clare Calbraith and Alec Newman will be appearing as special guests.

This time, the Major Investigation Unit in Morecambe is investigating the murder of Logan Marsden, a teenager in foster care. The investigation is made more difficult by tensions within the local community. As detectives begin to suspect people close to Logan, they uncover a larger criminal network operating in the area.

Morven Christie originally starred as DC Lisa Armstrong in the show, but she left after two seasons and was replaced by Thomason.

A release date for these new episodes has yet to be announced.
