After 3-Year Wait, Prime Video’s 3-Part David Tennant Fantasy Is Already Losing Steam

After a long-awaited release, the final episode of the Prime Video fantasy series hasn’t captured viewers’ attention as hoped. Interest appears to be fading quickly, less than two weeks after it premiered, with the show losing momentum globally.

According to data from FlixPatrol, viewership of Good Omens on Prime Video is quickly dropping in many countries. As of May 20th, it’s no longer appearing in the Top 10 TV shows list in the U.S. A similar trend is happening in the UK, where the show fell from #3 on May 14th to #8 on May 20th and is likely to leave the Top 10 soon. It has also disappeared from the Top 10 lists in several other countries where it had been popular.

After the final episode of Good Omens Season 3 was released on Prime Video on May 13th, the show has faced criticism from fans who weren’t happy with how the story ended. This dissatisfaction is now reflected in the show’s poor performance on streaming charts.

Good Omens Fans Slam Season 3 as the Series Falls Off the Streaming Charts

The second season of Good Omens came out in 2023, and although it’s been a while since the story concluded, the final episode left many fans disappointed. Currently, plans for Season 3 are facing criticism, with only 35% of viewers approving – a significant contrast to the 63% positive rating from critics.

Critics generally found the final episode of Good Omens to be adequate, but viewers have reacted very negatively. One Rotten Tomatoes user gave the third season a 0.5-star rating, writing that it felt like a disappointment, especially for dedicated fans who had hoped to see the central couple’s relationship properly developed.

Fans continued to voice their disappointment. After enjoying the series for years, they noticed a significant shift in quality. The characters began behaving inconsistently, the show lost its previously lighthearted and enjoyable feel, becoming much more bleak, and the plot felt hurried and confusing in places.

Most viewers were disappointed with the finale, describing it as a departure from the show’s original spirit and a letdown after an otherwise excellent series.

The Final Season of Good Omens Was Mired in Controversy

While negative reviews exist, they don’t fully explain the problems with the final season of Good Omens. A third and final season, originally planned for six episodes, was announced in 2023. However, production was halted in September 2024 following reports involving multiple women. The creator later left the project, and the season was ultimately shortened to a single, 90-minute finale.

Neil Gaiman is still officially credited as the writer of the story and episodes for Season 3, even though he wasn’t involved in the day-to-day running or overall production of the show. Earlier this year, he publicly denied accusations made against him, calling them a false attack and stating they were entirely untrue.

Good Omens Season 3 is now streaming on Prime Video.
