Summary

  • As a watch enthusiast, I’m really excited to hear that Christie’s is marking 40 years in Asia with something huge! They’re auctioning off an incredible private collection called “Kronos: Titans of Time” – 23 of the most stunning and important timepieces ever assembled. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime sale for serious collectors, and I can’t wait to see what records are broken!

  • This collection of watches is estimated to be worth over HK$100 million (about $12.8 million USD), making it one of the most valuable watch auctions ever held based on the average price per item.

  • The auction will happen in two parts, starting during Hong Kong Luxury Week on May 27th and 28th, 2026. The first five most sought-after items will be offered for sale then.

To mark its 40th anniversary in Asia, Christie’s is holding a remarkable auction featuring an extraordinary collection of 23 rare and valuable watches. Called “Kronos: Titans of Time,” this single-owner collection has been carefully assembled with a focus on quality and history, and is estimated to be worth over HK$100 million – making it one of the most valuable watch auctions ever held.

For purists of high horology, the undeniable focal point of the upcoming spring sale is the Patek Philippe “Sky Moon Tourbillon” (Ref. 5002P-001). Widely considered one of the most important modern wristwatches ever created, the double-dial platinum masterpiece features a staggering 12 complications, including a retrograde perpetual calendar, a celestial chart of the northern hemisphere, and a “Cathedral” minute repeater. The piece is so exclusive that original buyers had to pass a rigorous in-person interview with Patek Philippe just to be placed on the waiting list. Only an estimated 40 pieces were ever produced in platinum, with a mere 17 currently known to the market.

The Patek Philippe Ref. 5207P is another standout piece. This platinum Grand Complication represents the pinnacle of modern watchmaking and took five years to create. It’s packed with incredibly complex features – including a minute repeater, tourbillon, and perpetual calendar – all displayed on a clear and beautifully designed watch face.

One of the standout watches of the spring is the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Ref. 26334OR, a stunning combination of fine watchmaking and exquisite jewelry. Created in 2017 for Italian retailer Dobner, this automatic chronograph features an 18k pink gold case completely covered in diamonds. What makes this watch truly special is its octagonal bezel, set with 32 baguette-cut rubies weighing around 3.42 carats – a unique design element that hasn’t been seen before.

With this significant acquisition, Christie’s is celebrating 40 years of success in Asia and solidifying its leading role in the luxury watch market. The first five watches from the “Kronos” collection will be auctioned on May 27th and 28th, 2026, as part of Hong Kong Luxury Week. The remaining 18 pieces will be offered in November during the Autumn sales.
