Be warned: This article contains spoilers for the finale of The Boys. While Gen V season 3 has been canceled, Eric Kripke has shared details about the planned storyline.
It was a real blow to hear that the Gen V spin-off wasn’t going to continue, especially with season 5 of The Boys already dropping. I was glad to see Marie, Jordan, and Emma pop up in the finale – Jaz Sinclair, London Thor, and Lizze Broadway all did great work – but honestly, their appearances felt a little shoehorned in. It didn’t really give their storylines the conclusion they deserved, which was a shame.
I was reading an interview with Eric Kripke after The Boys finale, and he revealed some really interesting plans they had for the future! Apparently, a big part of what they envisioned for Season 3 of Gen V would have revolved around Stan Edgar getting his job back at Vought and Vought actually turning against supes. The story would have followed the students from Godolkin University as they dealt with all the consequences of those huge changes. It’s fascinating to hear what could have been!
As a fan, I was really invested in the direction Gen V was taking, especially that finale. It felt like we were seeing Marie step up as the new ‘good supe’ to follow, taking the reins from Annie, and I’d love to see that storyline continue. Right now, we’re just brainstorming, seeing if any ideas really grab us. The ending left so many possibilities open – Stan Edgar cutting ties with supes means all these previously protected heroes are suddenly on their own. It makes you wonder who will try to do the right thing, like a Jessica Jones type, and who will go down a darker path. That’s where things get really interesting, and the plan was always to put the Gen V crew right in the middle of all that chaos. Hopefully, we still can, and maybe even weave those characters into the bigger stories we’re discussing.
Yes, we’re planning a third season of “Gen V.” The storyline would have explored the difficulties of young adulthood – being out on your own when traditional support systems and job opportunities are disappearing. It would have focused on how these young heroes build their futures and confront those who choose to use their powers for evil.
The second season of Gen V ended with the death of Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater). With Vought now distancing itself from powered individuals, Godolkin University likely wouldn’t have stayed open. According to creator Eric Kripke, the show would have shifted focus to Marie and her friends as they adjust to life outside of the school, in a world that isn’t built for them or the skills they developed there.
Instead, the heroes would have been stuck cleaning up the aftermath of Homelander’s defeat. They’d be focused on helping supes who want to do good and guiding those who need it, all while also dealing with those who would abuse their powers and become villains.
More to come…
