The show The Testaments, a sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, has been renewed for another season before the first season even finishes airing next week. Set in the world of Gilead, the series follows Agnes McKenzie, a teenage daughter of a Commander, played by rising star Chase Infiniti. The story focuses on Agnes as she begins to challenge the strict, traditional upbringing she’s receiving.
The new series, based on the book of the same name by Margaret Atwood, author of The Handmaid’s Tale, has been renewed for a second season. However, a release date hasn’t been announced yet.
Debuting in early April, The Testaments presents a new perspective on the world of Gilead, focusing on the lives of the Plums – the daughters of the Commanders. The show explores the restricted lives of these teenage girls, who are raised with a specific purpose: to marry and bear children for the ruling class.

Agnes’s world is turned upside down when Daisy (played by Lucy Halliday) arrives. Daisy is secretly a member of Mayday, a rebel group, sent to gather intelligence within the oppressive society of Gilead. Although Agnes doesn’t realize Daisy is working against the regime, the two women develop a strong friendship while being closely monitored by the Aunts.
The tension building with the Plums will finally explode in the season one finale, available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu starting May 27th. The final episode, titled ‘Secateurs’ – named after a unique tool – will focus on the consequences of a shocking murder.
What to Read Next

Set four years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale, The Testaments brings back Ann Dowd as Aunt Lydia. This time, she’s in charge of an academy for girls, and the series will also explore her difficult past and how she managed to survive.
The series is created by Bruce Miller, who also worked on The Handmaid’s Tale. He, along with Joseph Dowd and Elisabeth Moss, all serve as executive producers. Moss also makes a special appearance as June Osborne, the central character from the original series—and the birth mother of Agnes.
Digital Spy praised the new series as a fantastic reimagining that’s as strong as the first season of The Handmaid’s Tale. It also received a high score of 87% and a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Testaments streams on Disney+ and Hulu.
