The British drama The Last Bus, starring Timothy Spall, is now available on a new streaming service in the UK. The film, which also features Phyllis Logan from Downton Abbey, tells the story of a man who attempts to honor his late wife’s final wish by scattering her ashes at a meaningful location.
I was really captivated by Timothy Spall’s character in the film! He basically travels the entire length of Britain – all the way from the very top in Scotland, John o’ Groats, down to the southwestern tip in Cornwall, Land’s End – and he does it all with his free bus pass! It’s such a charming and simple premise.
You can now watch The Last Bus on Prime Video at no extra cost if you’re a subscriber. It’s also still available to stream on BBC iPlayer, where it was added last summer.

One viewer described the film as emotionally moving, saying, “It’s not meant to be realistic—if you want that, watch a documentary!—but it’s perfect for relaxing with a drink and letting yourself feel something.”

One viewer called the film “beautiful” and praised its ability to evoke strong emotions. Another described it as a “gem” with fantastic performances and direction, adding that its heartwarming nature is especially welcome right now.
While many viewers were touched by the film, reviews were mixed. Common Sense Media acknowledged its emotional impact, saying it was “incredibly difficult not to be moved,” but also noted that certain dramatic moments felt forced or unnatural.

According to Variety, while the movie is gentle and centers on an elderly man’s difficult bus journey to fulfill his late wife’s final request, it surprisingly lacks deep emotional depth and doesn’t build much tension.
Film Threat praised the movie as a heartwarming story that encourages viewers to cherish their loved ones.
