Daredevil Production Designer Reveals Why Real NY Police Almost Shut Born Again Down

Season 2 isn’t just enjoyable superhero entertainment; it demonstrates that Marvel still delivers compelling stories that tackle meaningful and relatable issues. A key strength of this season is how well the narrative is woven into the fabric of New York City and its communities.

Shaw explained that seeing Fisk looking down from the window represented a major turning point, a moment where all the tension finally erupted. He added that this mirrored what was happening in New York City at the time.

Shaw acknowledged the strong connection viewers are making between the show’s riots and the Anti-Vigilante Task Force and current events. He explained that the similarities became unavoidable, and filming was often complicated by real-life protests happening in the city.

“We had to schedule around protests that were actually happening,” he said.

Shaw explained that the NYPD wasn’t mainly worried the film would worsen existing tensions. Their primary concern was how it would look to stage a fake protest while the city was already experiencing unrest.

We faced several close calls with being shut down, as the police were hesitant to allow another protest similar to those occurring in New York.
