I’m really excited for the second season of Ludwig! I heard from one of the actors that they’re adding some awesome new characters. Apparently, they’re going to be fantastic – they called them ‘brilliant’, which is a great sign. I’m a big fan of Anna Maxwell Martin and David Mitchell, so I can’t wait to see what they do with it.
Mitchell, known for his role in Peep Show, stars as John ‘Ludwig’ Taylor, a puzzle master nicknamed the “Elvis Presley of puzzle-setters.” He’s forced to pretend to be his brother, a detective who has gone missing. This unusual plan is hatched by John’s sister-in-law, Lucy, played by Martin.
The popular comedy-crime series premiered in 2024 and quickly gained a large following. The two main actors will definitely be returning for the next season – it simply wouldn’t be the same show without them.

The BBC show is welcoming some fantastic new cast members, including Mark Bonnar (known for roles in Line of Duty, Dept. Q, and Celebrity Traitors), Sian Clifford (Fleabag), Ben Ashenden (Deep Cover), and Rumi Sutton (Daddy Issues).
In a recent interview with Radio Times, Mitchell hinted that season two of Ludwig will introduce some hilarious and memorable new characters.

He described the new actors, Ashenden and Sutton, as both talented and hilarious. They’ll be joining the show as members of the police team, bringing fresh, funny characters and a great chemistry to the screen. However, he added that the overall storyline won’t be changing.
Mitchell describes Bonnar’s character as a funny and somewhat clumsy newspaper editor, calling it a great role. Ludwig, who plays Clifford, was more reserved about what will happen with her character, simply calling it “intriguing.” She also shared that it was a pleasure to work with the other actor, as she’s been a fan of their work for a long time.
Ludwig was the BBC’s most popular scripted show in 2024, marking the biggest comedy launch since 2018. The show wasn’t just a hit with viewers; critics loved it too. Its first season has a remarkable 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and Digital Spy called it “possibly the most enjoyable show you’ll watch this fall.”

Season two of Ludwig will see Mitchell’s character, John, working as a crime scene consultant for the Cambridge Police, handling particularly difficult cases. This new role means he no longer needs to pretend to be his brother, allowing him to fully embrace his personality – a brilliant puzzle-solver who struggles with everyday life.
However, John’s twin brother, James, remains missing. Now that John works for the station, he’s not allowed to use police resources to search for James or find out what James was working on.
John and Lucy are determined to keep going, and there’s a problem that needs to be fixed – a husband and father needs to be found. One disguise or deception is over, but another has just started…
Sounds like lots for fans to look forward to.
Ludwig is available to stream on BBC iPlayer, and season 2 is on the way.
