Ana De Armas’ New Psychological Thriller Since John Wick Spinoff Gets A Major Filming Update

Ana de Armas‘ new upcoming post-Ballerina movie, Sweat, has received a major filming update.

Ana de Armas started her acting career in Cuba and Spain before relocating to Los Angeles. She had early roles in films like Knock Knock and War Dogs, and gained international recognition with her performance in Blade Runner 2049. She further established herself with notable appearances in Knives Out and as a Bond girl in No Time To Die.

After appearing as a Bond girl, Ana de Armas made history as the first Cuban actress to receive an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in the film Blonde, which sparked considerable discussion. She then moved into action films, starring in Ballerina, a new movie connected to the John Wick universe.

Ana de Armas is building on her recent role in Ballerina with a new thriller called Sweat, which is a remake of the 2020 film of the same name. According to Deadline, ACG Studios head Stuart Ford has announced that filming for Sweat is scheduled to start later this year. Here’s what he had to say about it:

We’re looking at a few projects for the fall festival circuit. We’re also making a Beatles TV series called Hamburg Days, which I’m particularly enthusiastic about as someone from Liverpool. There’s a lot of buzz around that one. Plus, Ana de Armas is scheduled to film Sweat later this year.

Sweat is a new thriller starring Ana de Armas as Emma Kent, a fitness influencer hoping to become famous on social media. She gets caught up in a frightening situation when an obsessive fan starts stalking her. The film will be directed by J Blakeson, who previously made I Care A Lot, and is expected to be released in early 2027 after filming begins later this year.

Ana de Armas is set to have a very busy year, with five projects in the works, plus three films and two television shows already listed on her IMDb page. As she becomes a bigger star, her upcoming movie Sweat could be a new and exciting role for her, and likely another hit to add to her growing list of successful films.

The 2020 film Sweat currently has a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, so expectations are high for the remake to be equally well-received by critics and audiences. Sweat promises to be a notable role for Ana de Armas, and a strong supporting cast could solidify her position as a prominent leading actress in Hollywood.

Production on Sweat began on March 30, 2026.
