Although the full global release isn’t until May 19, 2026, players who paid for early access have been enjoying the game since May 15.

Early reports from Day One show that a required in-game event called the “River Split Speed Trap” attracted an incredible 1,191,886 unique players in the first 48 hours of early access. This is especially impressive given the game’s high price tag – it currently costs $120 as a standalone Premium Edition. However, players with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate can access the game sooner with a discounted upgrade that costs around $70.

The enthusiastic initial response to the game continues the strong history of the Forza Horizon series, which has always been a major success for Xbox and developer Playground Games. Instead of Mexico, Forza Horizon 6 takes place in a beautifully recreated virtual Japan, a setting that players have been eagerly awaiting.

The game has received incredible reviews, earning a Metacritic score of 92 and being named the best game of 2026. It’s already broken sales records on PC, launching with over 130,000 players on Steam – quickly surpassing the peak of Forza Horizon 5 and reaching over 178,000 concurrent players. With the standard edition now available to a wider audience through Game Pass and retail, player numbers are expected to increase significantly.
