Devil Wears Prada 2 Reaches Huge Box Office Milestone That Only 3 Other Anne Hathaway Movies Have Hit

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is still in fashion after three weekends at the box office.

The highly anticipated sequel to the 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada, titled The Devil Wears Prada 2, premiered in 2026. It brings back the original director, David Frankel, screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, and stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. The film opened at number one and remained there for its second weekend, even with the new release Mortal Kombat II also performing well.

According to Variety, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has now earned over $500 million worldwide. It’s expected to bring in another $20 million in the US and Canada this weekend. This makes it only the fourth film starring Anne Hathaway to reach that level of success (without adjusting for inflation), following Interstellar, 2010’s Alice in Wonderland, and The Dark Knight Rises. Her next most successful movie is the 2012 musical Les Misérables, which earned less than $450 million in theaters.

Despite falling to second place at the domestic box office – overtaken by the musical biopic MichaelDevil Wears Prada 2 is still doing remarkably well. Here’s a look at how Anne Hathaway’s five highest-grossing films have performed both domestically and worldwide, along with their scores from Rotten Tomatoes, considering both critics (Tomatometer) and audiences (Popcornmeter).

Title Domestic Box Office Worldwide Box Office Tomatometer Popcornmeter
The Dark Knight Rises (2012) $448.1 million $1.085 billion 87% 90%
Alice in Wonderland (2010) $334.2 million $1.025 billion 51% 55%
Interstellar (2014) $203.2 million $774.7 million 73% 87%
The Devil Wears Prada 2 (2026) $177 million (& counting) $500 million (& counting) 78% 85%
Les Misérables (2012) $149.3 million $442.7 million 70% 79%

It’s still uncertain whether The Devil Wears Prada 2 will become one of Anne Hathaway’s biggest films. Although it’s unlikely to reach $1 billion in total earnings, it could potentially earn another $300 million, allowing it to surpass Interstellar and become her third-highest-grossing movie of all time.

Despite positive reviews for The Devil Wears Prada 2 potentially driving continued buzz, the success of Alice in Wonderland – despite mixed reviews – shows that critical scores don’t always determine a film’s box office performance. However, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is currently performing similarly to Interstellar and even slightly better than the original The Devil Wears Prada (with 75% and 76% scores on the Tomatometer and Popcornmeter, respectively). This could give the sequel a stronger run than either of its predecessors had at this point in their releases.

Even without knowing its final ranking, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is now a major box office success. The film has easily made back its $100 million budget—likely needing around $250 million to break even—and is currently the fifth highest-grossing movie of the year, surpassing Pixar’s Hoppers ($371.8 million worldwide) in earnings.
