Chris Hemsworth has shared the difficult experience of learning about his father Craig’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis.
The 42-year-old actor recently shared a documentary called ‘A Road Trip To Remember.’ It shows him and his father traveling across Australia to revisit places from his childhood.
Chris discovered he carried two copies of the APOE4 gene, one inherited from each parent. This significantly increased his risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease, making him eight to ten times more likely to be affected.
Chris explained that his father’s illness, which has become more apparent recently, was a difficult surprise for his family.
He recalled clearly a conversation where the other person reassured him not to worry, as he shared on Jay Shetty’s ‘On Purpose’ podcast.
A couple of years later, my mom told me she was worried about my dad and thought he needed to see a doctor because she’d noticed some concerning changes.
‘The obvious one’s memory and sort of slight mood, changes and shifts and forgetfulness and so on.
He got tested and discovered he had two copies of the APOE4 gene, just like my mother.
He went on to explain that he, Luke, and Liam all inherited two copies of the APOE4 gene, which is an unusual genetic combination.
I instantly understood how difficult this was for him, because I’d recently been telling myself to ignore it and hope it would resolve itself later.
It appeared unexpectedly before us, and while it was challenging, we still maintained a confident, problem-solving attitude.
As things deteriorated, it felt like a sudden awakening and a major disruption. Our previously firm beliefs and expectations were about to be completely overturned.
Chris’ latest movie project sees him star alongside Halle Berry in new film Crime 101.
Bart Layton, who previously directed the successful crime thriller American Animals in 2018, is back with a new film in the same genre.
Crime 101, inspired by a novel by Winslow, centers around a series of well-planned jewellery robberies happening along the Pacific Coast. At first, authorities suspect these crimes are connected to Colombian drug cartels.
But one sharp-eyed detective isn’t convinced – and soon zeroes in on a very different suspect.
Layton not only takes the director’s chair but also co-wrote the screenplay with Peter Straughan.
Okay, so get this – the people making this movie? It’s a dream team! Shane Salerno from Story Factory is involved, which is HUGE, and then Working Title – Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan, the absolute legends – are on board too! Plus, Dimitri Doganis, Derrin Schlesinger, and Layton from RAW are all producing it with them! Seriously, RAW is amazing, I’m so excited they’re part of this! And Joely Fether is executive producing? Ugh, perfection. I’m telling you, with this team, it has to be incredible!
The movie will hit theaters on February 13.
