A fan-favorite hero from the Marvel Cinematic Universe has returned, and the new Marvel special, , is already a big success with viewers.
Disney+’s new special, The Punisher: One Last Kill, quickly became the most popular title on the streaming service. According to data from FlixPatrol, it reached the No. 1 spot worldwide just one day after its release on May 12th. The special is currently leading in all viewing categories, surpassing every other movie and show available on Disney+, and continues to hold strong at the top.
The Punisher Is Back and Better Than Ever 10 Years Later
The new episode, The Punisher: One Last Kill, has been a big hit with viewers, and the positive reception reflects that. It currently has a 75% approval rating – better than the original 2017 series – and an impressive 87% audience score, suggesting almost everyone who watched it enjoyed it.
After Jon Bernthal first played Frank Castle/The Punisher in the second season of Netflix’s Daredevil a decade ago, One Last Kill aims to reintroduce the character within the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe, potentially leading to future storylines. Some fans were unsure how Disney would portray the Punisher’s intense violence, but this new adventure should reassure them that the character is still being handled well.
Marvel Must Learn From The Punisher: One Last Kill’s Success
With ‘The Punisher: One Last Kill,’ Marvel has a chance to shape the direction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As only the third ‘Special Presentation’ since 2022 – following ‘Werewolf by Night’ and ‘The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ – it’s been nearly four years since the last one. Given the success of all three so far, Marvel should definitely consider creating more projects in this style.
These standalone stories are a great way to delve deeper into beloved characters without the commitment of a full TV series. They offer a quick and easy way to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Marvel Studios doesn’t currently have any other ‘Special Presentations’ planned.
The Punisher: One Last Kill is streaming on Disney+.
