Harry and Meghan return to Netflix for war drama based on “searing true story”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s production company, Archewell, is partnering with Netflix again to create a film based on the true story told in Major Adam Jowett’s book, No Way Out: The Searing True Story of Men Under Siege.

The book, published in 2019, recounts the experiences of Jowett’s unit, Easy Company—comprising paratroopers and Royal Irish rangers—as they defended the District Centre of Musa Qala against repeated Taliban attacks. It details the entire operation, culminating in a surprising finale.

Matt Charman, the Oscar-nominated writer of the spy thriller Bridge of Spies, is adapting the project, according to Deadline. This is the newest venture for Archewell after its previous exclusive deal with Netflix concluded.

Earlier this year, Netflix content chief Bela Bajaria responded to talk that the streaming service was distancing itself from the show With Love, Meghan after deciding not to renew it for a third season.

We continue to work with them on several projects, including upcoming films and a documentary. They’re also developing content for both television and movies. It’s normal for deals to end, and while we don’t renew many, those situations rarely make headlines because there isn’t a particularly interesting story to tell.

Considering Prince Harry served in the British Army for a decade, including two deployments to Afghanistan until 2015, it’s easy to see why he’d be drawn to the story of No Way Out.

Besides the polo series and a film based on Tracey Oliver’s novel The Wedding Date, Archewell is also producing No Way Out for Netflix.
