Good Omens’ David Tennant and Michael Sheen say finale is “the only way this story could end”

David Tennant and Michael Sheen, the stars of Good Omens, have shared their thoughts on the show’s ending, believing it was the only fitting conclusion to the story. The fantasy series recently released its third and final season, which was presented as a special 90-minute finale.

As you may have seen in the finale, Aziraphale and Crowley, the angel and demon, ultimately choose to save humanity and preserve free will. They do this by sacrificing themselves after finally reconciling and expressing their feelings for each other.

Eventually, we discover that the characters are later reborn as humans, meet again after billions of years, and find love, ultimately living happily together.

In a behind-the-scenes interview, Sheen revealed that Aziraphale and Crowley ultimately decide to erase themselves to save humanity.

He explained that these beings desire freedom for humanity, even if it means sacrificing themselves. They prioritize what they see as the greater good, even at personal cost. However, life will always find a way to continue, regardless of their choices.

As a fan, I was really intrigued when David Tennant described the recent scenes as “almost quite philosophical” and totally different from anything we’ve seen in the show before. It definitely sounds like they’re taking some big risks, and I’m here for it!

He concluded that the story naturally led to a reflection on the human condition, something he felt deeply connected to. “This is a project I’ll always be proud of and cherish,” he said.

Sheen further admitted that getting to the end of the story was “incredibly bittersweet”.

The series finale has received mostly positive reviews. FandomWire called it “a wonderful and exciting conclusion that fans will likely love,” and Inverse stated it was “the perfect ending for both the show and its dedicated fanbase.”

The finale also features performances by Derek Jacobi, Doon Mackichan, Gloria Obianyo, Liz Carr, Paul Chahidi, and Quelin Sepulveda, in addition to David Tennant and Michael Sheen.
