Percy Jackson Officially Expands With New Spinoff, Camp Half-Blood

The popular world of Rick Riordan’s books is expanding! Random House Children’s Books has revealed a new series called Camp Half-Blood, set to release this year.

For the Camp Half-Blood series, Rick Riordan is teaming up with a different author for each of the four books. Each novel will tell a new story about adventures at Camp Half-Blood that happened while Percy Jackson was busy with other things. These books, aimed at middle-grade readers, take place between the events of The Lightning Thief and The Sea of Monsters.

The Percy Jackson Series Expands

Since 2005, Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson books have sold over 150 million copies, according to publisher Random House. Riordan credits the series’ initial success with inspiring him to write Camp Half-Blood.

I started thinking about what the other demigods at Camp Half-Blood were up to during the original series, when Percy, Annabeth, and Grover were off on their adventures,” Riordan explained. “This new series lets me delve into those stories and expand Percy’s world by introducing a fresh group of heroes. What’s really exciting is that I’m collaborating with talented authors who can bring authentic voices and backgrounds to these new characters. It’s been a fantastic experience!”

The first book in the Camp Half-Blood series, The Wild Zone, is a collaboration between Rick Riordan and Annabelle Oh. It’s scheduled to be released on September 29th and promises a story full of ancient curses and dangerous monsters.

Oh shared how much joy they experienced playing in this world. They praised Rick Riordan for the incredible world-building over the years and expressed excitement for readers to explore more of Camp Half-Blood with both new and familiar characters.

What Is The Wild Zone About?

Here is Random House’s synopsis for The Wild Zone:

Katie Kim is new to Camp Half-Blood, and she knew immediately they shouldn’t have been in the Wild Zone—it’s a forbidden part of the forest for everyone. So why did Clarisse, the leader of the Ares cabin, bring Katie and four other new campers there at night and challenge them to return to camp before sunrise?

Clarisse was frightening, but things get much worse when Katie’s half-brother, Grant, vanishes. His disappearance unleashes dangerous monsters and a strange curse. Now, Katie and the three new recruits – known as the Wild Omada – must return to the perilous Wild Zone to expose its hidden and lethal truths.

The next four books in the Camp Half-Blood series will each be written by a different author. Kyle Lukoff will write the second book, Jade Adia the third, and Pablo Cartaya the fourth. Random House estimates about six months will pass between the release of each book.

With the new book, The Wild Zone, coming out, fans of Percy Jackson will have something to enjoy while they wait for the next seasons of the Disney+ show, which are planned to premiere in 2026.
