Although Sony hasn’t officially confirmed it, reports indicate that a sequel to their 2025 romantic horror film is being developed. Director Josh Ruben is said to be making good progress on the project, currently known as Heart Eyes 2.
Heart Eyes 2 reportedly happening
Talk of a second Heart Eyes movie – the first one came out in 2025 and blended horror with comedy – is circulating, but the filmmakers haven’t officially confirmed it yet.
Director Josh Ruben has finished a first draft of a script for a second film, according to Dread Central. He’s working on it alongside another movie called Wilderness Reform for Paramount, but the sequel hasn’t been officially approved yet. There’s no set date for when filming might begin, and details about the cast or story haven’t been revealed.
Ruben has shared his ideas for a potential “Heart Eyes” franchise. In a 2025 interview with Variety, he explained that the story could follow the classic formula of successful romantic comedies – like “His Girl Friday” or “Defending Your Life” – but with the “Heart Eyes” character at its core, causing chaos and action. He envisions a tone similar to films like “Bridget Jones” or “Love Actually,” but with the added twist of a masked killer threatening the characters.
Okay, so “Heart Eyes” – the first one – hit theaters back in February 2025. It’s a pretty cool slasher flick about this killer who shows up every Valentine’s Day with these creepy glowing red eyes and goes after couples. The new movie follows an ad exec and her coworker who become his targets, but they’re not going down without a fight! Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding are the leads, and they’re fantastic in it.
The movie received good reviews when it came out and earned about $33 million worldwide. This success quickly led to talk about making another film.
