She’s quickly out of her depth, struggling to understand current slang and workplace culture. Once she starts lying, it spirals, forcing her to create more and more fabrications to maintain the deception, and she feels increasingly guilty as she connects with her colleagues.
The show Younger centers on Liza, who starts a new job in the publishing world, which has been completely transformed by social media and the internet. A major challenge for her is keeping a big secret – her real age – from her coworkers, clients, and a man she’s becoming close to. Liza also quickly realizes how different this younger generation is, and while she gets some clues from her teenage daughter, keeping up with their trends and slang feels impossible.
Why ‘Younger’ Is Worth Watching

Similar to Sex and the City but geared towards a modern audience, Younger follows a woman reinventing her life – and maintaining a big secret about her age. The show is funny, with plenty of near-misses, but it also tackles the real issue of ageism in the workplace. It’s a relatable and optimistic series for women who are looking to return to their careers after raising children, and who feel overlooked because of their age. It proves it’s never too late to start over, even if it feels like you’re beginning from scratch. While the show’s premise – lying about your age to get a job – isn’t ideal, and not everyone can pull it off, the overall message is encouraging.
