Kelly Reilly, known for her role in Yellowstone, stars in a new Welsh crime drama called Under Salt Marsh, which begins tonight with two back-to-back episodes. The six-episode series is set in the made-up Welsh town of Morfa Halen.
As a major storm approaches, the town is shaken by the discovery of 9-year-old Cefin’s body by his teacher, Jackie Ellis, who used to be a detective. His death reopens old wounds and connects to a cold case that forced Jackie to leave the police force: the disappearance of her niece, Nessa.
The death of Cefin brings Jackie’s ex-partner, Detective Eric Bull (Rafe Spall), back to Morfa Halen to investigate – a town where he previously couldn’t solve a case.
What to Read Next
Because the cases might be connected, Jackie and Bull need to work together quickly to find hidden truths within the town of Morfa, before a coming storm destroys all the clues.
The upcoming series, Sky, tells a personal and visually stunning story, featuring Mark Stanley (known from Happy Valley), Dino Fetscher (Fool Me Once), Brian Gleeson (Bad Sisters), and Naomi Yang (Nightsleeper).
Jonathan Pryce, the acclaimed actor from shows like Slow Horses and Game of Thrones, is also part of the cast in this Welsh crime drama.

Reilly described the cast as ‘wonderful,’ expressing how much he enjoyed returning to the UK and collaborating with British actors. He said it was ‘beautiful to watch’ them work.
She praised Jonathan Pryce as a truly exceptional actor and highlighted the incredible talent of Harry Lawtey, who plays Dylan. She also noted that everyone involved in the project is dedicated and brings a lot of energy, even when facing challenges.
Shooting the film in North Wales during the winter was challenging, with harsh weather conditions like wind and rain. However, everyone involved was incredibly dedicated and motivated.

Reilly called Under Salt Marsh both a character study and a crime drama. She explained that the story delves into how experiences of trauma and guilt can change a person.
I hope the story deeply resonates with viewers, prompting them to consider how they would react if faced with a similar situation in their own lives and neighborhoods.
The first two episodes of Under Salt Marsh will be available to watch tonight on Sky and NOW.
