Production on Grey’s Anatomy has been temporarily stopped today because of the growing protests against ICE happening across the country. These protests gained momentum after the shooting of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis last weekend, and several crew members are participating, leading to a halt in filming, according to Deadline.
I’ve been following the protests closely, and it’s amazing to see how quickly they’ve spread. It all started with students at the University of Minnesota calling for action after recent events involving ICE agents in the state, and people all over the country have really responded. I’m hearing that this “National Shutdown” could even affect TV and movie filming on Friday, and I’ll be keeping an eye on how things develop and will share any updates I find.
The protest is being led by groups at the University of Minnesota, including the Somali Student Association and the Black Student Union. Organizers have published a statement saying the Twin Cities can set an example for the nation by stopping ICE’s harmful actions. They are calling for a nationwide day of action on Friday, January 30th, encouraging people to skip school, work, and shopping, and to oppose funding for ICE.
