After being canceled by Paramount+, the crime thriller Mayor of Kingstown will now stream on Netflix. Created by Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon, the show has run for four seasons and was recently picked up for a fifth and final season, despite Dillon’s original plan for seven seasons.
Good news for fans! According to Deadline, the series Mayor of Kingstown will be available to stream on Netflix in the US starting in 2026. This marks the first time a Taylor Sheridan series will be on the platform. Netflix is also adding other shows from Paramount+, including SEAL Team and Watson, as they continue to grow their selection of licensed content.
It’s currently unknown which seasons of these shows will be on Netflix, including the latest season of Mayor of Kingstown. Previously, all of these shows were only available on Paramount+. Mayor of Kingstown coming to Netflix is the first time a Taylor Sheridan series has streamed on a platform other than Paramount+ since Yellowstone became available on Peacock.
Netflix revealed the news during its fourth-quarter earnings call, where co-CEO Ted Sarandos stated:
We’re adding a bunch of new shows and series from Paramount that Netflix hasn’t offered before. Plus, we plan to continue expanding our selection of licensed content in 2026.
Jeremy Renner plays the main character in Mayor of Kingstown, an unofficial mayor in a made-up town in Michigan. This town heavily relies on its prisons, and the show follows his efforts to keep the peace by navigating the complicated relationships between the police, criminals, and politicians. It’s a world where right and wrong aren’t always clear.
I’m really enjoying Mayor of Kingstown, and the acting is fantastic! Jeremy Renner leads a truly incredible cast, including Dianne Wiest, Hugh Dillon, Tobi Bamtefa, Taylor Handley, Emma Laird, Derek Webster, Hamish Allan-Headley, Pha’rez Lass, Aidan Gillen, Kyle Chandler, Nishi Munshi, Michael Beach, Necar Zadegan, Laura Benanti, Lennie James, and the always amazing Edie Falco. They all bring so much to their roles.
Critics weren’t initially impressed with Mayor of Kingstown, giving the first two seasons an average rating of just 42%. However, the show has significantly improved, with seasons three and four receiving a much higher average score of 89%. Viewers have consistently enjoyed the series, giving it an overall average of 84% across all four seasons.
Despite plans for a seven-season run from co-creator Hugh Dillon, the show Mayor of Kingstown has been renewed for a fifth and final season. It’s been revealed that this decision went against the wishes of Taylor Sheridan and was ultimately made by Paramount executive Cindy Holland, effectively canceling the series.
