Netflix ended its fiscal year on a high note, announcing an 18% increase in revenue for the fourth quarter, reaching just over $12 billion – a significant jump from the same period last year.
The company announced its profits for the period were $2.4 billion, which equals 56 cents per share. This is an increase from the $1.87 billion, or 43 cents per share, earned during the same period last year.
Netflix announced its latest results were a bit better than expected, thanks to a stronger advertising business, price increases, and growth in paid memberships – which now total over 325 million, according to a letter to shareholders.
Okay, so I’ve been digging into Netflix’s latest numbers, and here’s what I found: people are actually watching more on the platform. They reported a 2% increase in total viewing time during the last six months of the year, which is a pretty good sign for them. Basically, we’re all still happily binging!
Netflix saw a significant increase in viewers last quarter, thanks to the final season of the popular show “Stranger Things” and other hits like Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein” and the mystery film “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,” along with a variety of documentaries and movies.
For the year, the Los Gatos-based company reported revenues of $45.2 billion, up 16% from 2024.
The earnings report came after Netflix announced it revised its offer to purchase Warner Bros. Discovery, switching to a full cash payment. The two companies initially agreed to the $82.7 billion deal back in December.
Paramount, a competing company, is still determined to buy Warner Bros., even after facing some challenges. They’ve asked Warner Bros. shareholders to offer their shares by January 21st, but it’s unclear if Paramount will give them more time to do so.
Over the past few months, Warner Bros. has repeatedly turned down offers from Paramount, signaling they’d rather partner with Netflix.
The market results came out after trading ended. Netflix stock finished Tuesday at $87.05, a decrease of 1%.
