Stranger Things, Landman Lead To Record-Breaking Christmas Streaming Numbers

Streaming reached an all-time high in the U.S. on Christmas Day 2025, according to Nielsen data. This surge was primarily due to the three NFL games shown exclusively on Netflix and Prime Video. New episodes of Season 5 and the popular series Landman also contributed significantly to the record-breaking numbers.

Americans watched a record-breaking 55.1 billion minutes of video on streaming services this Christmas Day, surpassing last year’s record by 3.9 billion minutes, according to Nielsen. Streaming accounted for a new high of 54% of all television viewing on Christmas Day.

Streaming reached a record high in December, thanks to strong numbers on Christmas Day and December 13, according to Nielsen. Streaming accounted for 47.5% of all television viewing that month, a slight increase from the previous record of 47.3%. December 13 also saw streaming surpass half of all TV viewing.

This Christmas, Netflix and Prime Video both streamed NFL games. These two platforms combined made up over 22% of all TV viewing that day, and almost 42% of all streaming activity.

Let me tell you, “Squid Game” was a massive hit for Netflix! It absolutely exploded in popularity, driving the streamer to some seriously impressive viewership numbers. In fact, December alone saw people watching the show for a whopping 15 billion minutes – that’s incredible!

Paramount+ had its most-watched day ever on Christmas, thanks to the popular series Landman, which was already breaking records for the streaming service. Landman was the second most-streamed show in December, racking up 6.2 billion viewing minutes.

Season 2 of Landman on Paramount+ quickly became the most popular premiere for any original series on the platform, attracting over 9.2 million viewers in its first two days. This is a significant jump – 262% higher – than the viewership for the show’s first season premiere.
