Amazon MGM Studios is creating a new animated series based on the popular webcomic Lore Olympus. Julia Cooperman will lead the show as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. WEBTOON Productions and The Jim Henson Company are also involved as executive producers.
I’m so excited about Lore Olympus! From what I’ve heard, it’s going to show us a completely different side of the gods – what they really get up to when no one’s watching. It’s all about their relationships, the drama, and even secret romances. Apparently, they’re not so different from us, dealing with their own messy problems. What’s really cool is that it’s a fresh take on the story of Persephone’s abduction, and it’s going to be beautifully done and really pull you into their world.
The WEBTOON comic Lore Olympus has reached an impressive 1.8 billion views worldwide. According to WEBTOON Productions president David Madden, the comic’s beautiful art, compelling story, and memorable characters have created a dedicated and enthusiastic fanbase eager for new content. Julia Cooperman, the showrunner, has written for several excellent but often overlooked TV series. These include the animated sci-fi show Pantheon (now on Netflix), and the Disney+ series Willow, which was unfortunately canceled too soon. She’s also contributed to Colony, The Winchesters, Jupiter’s Legacy, and Absentia.
With adult animation becoming increasingly popular, especially thanks to shows like Amazon MGM’s contributions, Cooperman is now focusing on Lore Olympus. Netflix led the way with the critically acclaimed animated fantasy series Arcane, and Prime Video has followed suit with successful shows like Hazbin Hotel, The Legend of Vox Machina, Invincible, and The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy.
Given the success of similar shows, Lore Olympus is expected to have a very talented voice cast. The show is coming to Prime Video in over 240 countries, though a specific release date hasn’t been announced yet. If its unique art style and compelling story deliver, it has the potential to become one of the best adult animated series in recent years.
