Unfortunately, the show Landman has ended, taking with it one of the most compelling aspects of Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace’s popular oil drama. Despite being well-received with an 80% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and becoming the biggest second season for a U.S. show since 2020, Landman was a global success and its cancellation is disappointing.

In December 2025, season 2 of Landman was streamed for a total of 6.2 billion minutes worldwide. Even after the season finale on January 18, 2026, viewers continued to tune in, reaching 26.9 million minutes streamed the week of January 19th. Despite some criticism, Taylor Sheridan delivered a major success for Paramount+ with this season.

The season 2 finale of Landman sets up an interesting story for season 3. After Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) loses his job at M-Tex Oil, he starts a new company called CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle with the help of his family and allies. Now, the Norris family is running their own business and controlling their own destiny.

Landman Just Ended Its Reliable Annual Fall Release Schedule

Billy Bob Thornton recently shared on the Howie Mandel Does Stuff podcast that filming for season 3 of Landman is expected to begin in late August. This means fans shouldn’t expect the new season to arrive on Paramount+ in November 2026, as they did with the first two seasons.

The second season of Landman arrived on Paramount+ only a year after the first, which was a welcome surprise. These days, it’s common to wait two years or even longer between seasons of streaming shows, and that can make it hard to remember the details of what happened previously.

The regular release schedule for Landman set it apart from most streaming shows. Unlike many series available online, Landman felt more like a traditional TV show, consistently premiering new episodes at a predictable time each year.

Filming for the first two seasons of Landman typically started in the spring (March-May), allowing for a November release on Paramount+. However, with season 3 filming now planned to begin in August, the premiere is expected in winter or spring of 2027. What To Expect From Landman Season 3

Season 3 of Landman promises a fresh start for the Norris family, as the second season sometimes felt repetitive. Tommy bringing together his family and inner circle into a new business is a satisfying development, building on the story arc that began after Monty Miller’s (Jon Hamm) death in season 1.

Tommy has officially partnered with drug lord Danny Morrell, who is now funding Tommy’s new oil business. However, despite the alliance, Tommy and Morrell are likely to clash. Tommy’s oil company directly competes with M-Tex, putting its survival at risk, and also creates a powerful enemy in Cami Miller.

Most of the actors from Landman have moved on to Tommy’s CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle, but Angela (Ali Larter) and Ainsley Norris (Michelle Randolph) will have separate storylines in season 3. We’ll likely see Ainsley continue to navigate college life at Texas Christian University, along with her roommate, Paigyn (Bobbi Salvör Menuez).

Fans will miss new episodes of Landman this November, but season three promises to be excellent. Looking ahead to 2027, Taylor Sheridan has a lot in store, with the second seasons of The Madison and Dutton Ranch, plus the highly anticipated third season of Landman.
