Tate McRae reveals her mum ‘stretched her hips out’ at two years old so that she was flexible and a successful dancer

Singer Tate McRae shared that her mother used to gently stretch her hips as a baby, hoping it would help her develop flexibility for dance and other activities later in life.

The popular Canadian singer, famous for her energetic and captivating performances, shared her advice for becoming a successful dancer in a recent interview.

She shared on the Las Culturistas podcast that her mother believes hip flexibility is determined early in life. Her mother used to stretch her into the splits before she was two years old, which she credits with giving her naturally flexible hips. She jokingly suggested this could be a technique for parents hoping their daughters become dancers.

‘I can do the spits, I did gymnastics when I was younger too.

‘They would take your first leg on a chair, your back leg on a chair and then sit on your knees.

‘And you’d just be sobbing, for like minutes.’

At just six years old, Tate started dancing and dedicated herself to it, training for 11 hours daily at the renowned Alberta Ballet in Canada. She spent any remaining time participating in dance competitions and performances.

She also trained in rhythmic gymnastics, working with very demanding Russian coaches to become more flexible.

When she was 13, she appeared on the thirteenth season of the show and finished in third place. This made her the highest-ranking Canadian contestant ever on the series.

Her performance included a backwards walkover that left judge Paula Abdul speechless, exclaiming, ‘You are a gift from God!’

She started a dance channel on YouTube in 2011, which eventually led to her performing on Justin Bieber’s 2016 Purpose world tour.

In 2017 she then pivoted to singing, posting original songs she had written to her YouTube channel.

Those videos helped McRae land a recording contract with RCA Records in 2019

She explained on the podcast that her desire to become a pop star stemmed from a lifelong struggle to express herself. She found that dance and singing allowed her to communicate exactly how she felt and finally feel truly understood.

She’s gaining a lot of attention after being nominated for a Grammy for Best Dance-Pop Recording. The nomination is for her song “Just Keep Watching,” which was featured in the soundtrack for a movie about Formula 1 racing.

Just before Christmas, Tate and NHL player Jack Hughes were seen together in New York City, fueling speculation that they are dating.

The 24-year-old singer and hockey player were seen happily walking through the city together.

After ending her relationship with Australian rapper Kid Laroi six months ago, Tate was seen having dinner with Jack in Manhattan last November, sparking romantic rumors.

Jack plays for the New Jersey Devils and is currently signed to an eight-year, $64million contract.

People spotted her at a New Jersey Devils hockey game at the Prudential Center recently.

The singer recently opened up about feeling stressed and overwhelmed by the intense public attention she’s received since her very public split.

The rising star split from The Kid Laroi in July after about a year of dating.

The singer has shared that she found it difficult to deal with all the attention she received afterward.

She described the experience to Rolling Stone as frightening and too much to handle, adding that she would never speak about someone’s personal life like that, not even when discussing her friends.
