Okay, so as a huge Henry Cavill fan, I’ve been losing it waiting for his next big role after The Witcher. And let me tell you, it’s going to be massive! Forget monsters and magic – we’re talking a sprawling, dark sci-fi universe called Warhammer 40,000. It’s set 10,000 years in the future, filled with complicated characters, different alien races, and basically everyone operates in a grey area. For ages, we’ve heard rumors about this Amazon project, and finally, Henry just gave us a really promising update! It feels like it’s actually happening, and I couldn’t be more excited.
Henry Cavill announced exciting news on Instagram for fans of Warhammer 40,000. He hinted at which group the upcoming series will focus on, without revealing it directly. He started a long post by saying he’s wanted to see a live-action Warhammer universe for 30 years, and then continued…
After over two decades working in this industry, I truly believe I’m ready to bring a Warhammer Cinematic Universe to life. I’ve been incredibly lucky to partner with Natalie Viscuso at Vertigo – honestly, we might not have found the perfect launchpad at Amazon without her. And Amazon is going to give us the creative freedom we need to really do justice to the incredible scale of Warhammer. I’m so excited for what’s to come!
It’s good to hear the actor is committed to honoring the source material, but fans are even more excited about the image he shared. The symbol, called the Imperial Aquila, is a well-known emblem from the Warhammer 40,000 universe, representing the Imperium of Man and its Space Marines. Even people who aren’t deeply familiar with 40K probably recognize it. This image might suggest that the actor’s first show for Amazon will center around the Imperium of Man, although with the vast 10,000-year history of the 40K universe, it’s not a definitive clue.
What Actually Is ‘Warhammer 40,000’?
Trying to fully explain the world of Warhammer 40,000 would take ages – probably around 10,000 years! Created by Games Workshop, this universe is set 38,000 years in the future, where humanity has spread across the stars under the rule of the Emperor of Mankind, a being with god-like powers. But humans aren’t the only ones out there. The galaxy is filled with diverse and complicated species, including the Aeldari (a race of elf-like slavers), the Tau (often nicknamed “space communists” by fans), the warlike Orks, the robotic Necrons, and the Tyranids – a terrifying, hive-minded race that devours everything in its path. And as if all that weren’t enough, the universe also includes four different groups of demons!

Okay, so everyone’s guessing Henry Cavill’s big Warhammer 40K project will kick things off with the Space Marines – and honestly, that makes total sense. They’re the face of the whole universe, and we already got a little taste of their power in that Warhammer episode of Secret Level on Prime Video. But the really exciting thing is, if this first series lands well, the possibilities are endless. The Warhammer universe is absolutely packed with incredible stories, spanning the entire galaxy, so they could really go anywhere with it.
