As a Prime Video fan, I can tell you they have a lot of great crime shows, but there’s one that really stands out – it’s become a true classic that everyone streams again and again.

It seems like every major streaming service is focusing on a specific type of show. Apple TV+ is known for its science fiction series, while HBO is becoming the go-to place for high-quality fantasy. Amazon Prime Video, on the other hand, has become popular for action-packed shows that appeal to a broad audience, like Reacher, The Terminal List, Cross, and Jack Ryan.

Of all the crime dramas starring dads on Prime Video, one show has become a lasting classic, remaining popular even as new shows appear.

Bosch Was The Start Of A Franchise

After seven seasons, Bosch is still one of the most enduring shows of its kind on Prime Video. Remarkably, the show consistently maintained high quality and kept viewers engaged throughout its entire run. Its impressive 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes demonstrates why Prime Video continued to support it for so long.

The streaming service continued the story with a three-season sequel called Bosch: Legacy, which was also very well-received by critics. It earned a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The popular Bosch universe grew even larger with the spin-off series, Ballard. While some fans wished Titus Welliver returned as the lead, Ballard proved to be a hit. Now, the show is coming back for another season, with Maggie Q reprising her role as the main character.

But season 2 of Ballard isn’t the only show connected to the Bosch universe coming soon. Amazon’s Prime Video has also revealed plans for a prequel series that will explore the early days of Harry Bosch.

The new show, Bosch: Start of Watch, will feature Cameron Monaghan as a young Harry Bosch.

The Original Bosch Remains The Best Entry In The Saga

It’s common for spin-offs and sequels to popular TV shows to feel unnecessary and disappoint audiences. However, Prime Video’s Bosch: Legacy and Ballard have proven to be successful exceptions. Even with their success, it’s clear the Bosch universe hasn’t quite recaptured the magic of the original series since it ended.

While Bosch: Legacy continues the Prime Video series in a good way, the show doesn’t quite feel complete without Titus Welliver as the main character. His absence is definitely noticeable.

The character Ballard really gained popularity when Titus Welliver made a guest appearance in the first season. However, it will be challenging to recreate that success in the new Bosch prequel, which takes place in the past. Despite this, fans are still excited about the expanding Bosch universe and eager to see how Cameron Manoghan portrays the character.

But I still hope Titus Welliver will get to play the role in a major capacity again someday.

Will Bosch’s Upcoming Prequel Live Up To The Original?

Cameron Manoghan is a versatile actor, proven by his work on shows like Gotham and Shameless. He’s a great fit for this role, but the new show’s success also hinges on how well it adapts the original stories. Bosch was so effective because it skillfully blended elements from multiple Michael Connelly novels, creating a fresh and engaging experience.

The show could have played it safe by closely following the book, but it took a big chance with a different approach, and it really worked.

While shows like Cross on Prime Video have attempted to copy its style, they haven’t come close to matching its success. If Bosch: Start of Watch follows a similar path, it will need to be careful, finding a good mix between creating a fresh story and staying true to Michael Connelly’s original novels.

Though fans will miss Titus Welliver, it’s hard not to be optimistic that the next season of the Prime Video show will be just as good.
