Best movie new to Netflix this week
I absolutely love Lost in Translation! It’s one of those indie films that really stuck with me. Sofia Coppola, who also directed Priscilla, made this back in 2003, and it was a total surprise hit. Premiere Magazine even called it one of the most quietly emotional films of that year, and I totally agree!
The film Lost in Translation centers on a bored American movie star, played by Bill Murray, who travels to Tokyo for a whiskey commercial shoot. There, he connects with another unhappy American, played by Scarlett Johansson, and the two form an unlikely friendship.
The movie won an Academy Award for its original screenplay and helped launch Johansson’s successful acting career.

The original Scream launched a hugely popular series of horror films. It follows Sidney Prescott (played by Neve Campbell) and her friends as they are terrorized by a masked killer known as Ghostface for the very first time.
Praised by Radio Times as a “modern classic,” Wes Craven’s 1996 horror film went on to inspire several sequels – including the recently added 2 and 3 now available on Prime Video – and a new wave of remakes.
The first Scream movie starred a lot of big names alongside Neve Campbell, like Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, Rose McGowan, and Drew Barrymore.

In the crime drama Queen & Slim, Academy Award winner Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith play a couple whose first date takes a dramatic turn when they’re forced to go on the run after fatally shooting a police officer in self-defense.
With a strong 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 233 reviews, the film Queen & Slim has been praised as a modern classic that powerfully portrays the Black experience, according to the website But Why Tho?.

In Mission: Impossible – Fallout, the sixth film in the Mission: Impossible series, Ethan Hunt (played by Tom Cruise) and his team must work together to stop a terrorist group from launching a nuclear attack.
The movie Fallout has the highest rating of all the films in the series on Rotten Tomatoes, with a remarkable 98% fresh score. Critics agree that it continues the franchise’s tradition of delivering incredibly over-the-top action sequences.
The 2018 film stars Henry Cavill, known for The Witcher, as CIA agent August Walker. Sean Harris, who appeared in The King, reprises his role as the villain Solomon Lane from the earlier film Rogue Nation.

Best movie new to Channel 4 this week
The 2023 film The Zone of Interest tells the story of Rudolf Höss, the commandant of Auschwitz, and his family. It’s based on a novel by Martin Amis and portrays their attempt to create a normal home life while the atrocities of the Holocaust unfold nearby.
This unsettling and critically praised film delves into the darkness of human nature. Digital Spy called it a difficult, but important, film to see.
Sandra Hüller, known for Anatomy of a Fall, and Christian Friedel, from The White Lotus, lead the cast in a new film written and directed by Jonathan Glazer, who previously made Under the Skin.
