Tobey Maguire’s iconic Spider-Man movie from 2002, a film that heavily influenced superhero movies for years to come, is currently popular on streaming. According to FlixPatrol, it’s at number 10 on Hulu, with its follow-up, Spider-Man 3, not far behind at number 12.
The original Spider-Man movie is currently popular on streaming services as Marvel fans anticipate future installments. This renewed interest is partly due to Tobey Maguire reprising his role as Peter Parker in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, alongside Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield.
Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man films, directed by Sam Raimi, really defined how Marvel movies would look and feel in the 2000s. Though Blade and X-Men came before, they tried to disguise their comic book roots with darker themes and action, leaning into horror and science fiction. Raimi’s Spider-Man, however, fully embraced the source material, drawing inspiration from the classic 1960s Amazing Spider-Man comics by Steve Ditko and Stan Lee – something the earlier films didn’t quite do.
