Sam Claflin’s brooding period drama branded “a flawless masterpiece” lands new UK streaming home

The popular period drama, The Count of Monte Cristo, which has been called a “flawless masterpiece,” is now available on a new streaming service in the UK. This 2024 series is based on Alexandre Dumas’ classic 1846 novel and follows Edmon Dantes, played by Tom Claflin, as he fights for freedom after being wrongly imprisoned for treason.

Edmond Dantès, a sailor, is wrongly accused of treason and thrown into the infamous Château d’If prison near Marseille. After a daring escape, he transforms himself into the wealthy Count of Monte Cristo and dedicates his life to getting revenge on those who betrayed him.

The eight-episode series, directed by Bille August, is now streaming on Channel 4’s free service, supported by ads. It’s available as part of a partnership between Channel 4 and UKTV’s U.
