Italian fashion designer Valentino Garavani dies ‘surrounded by his loved ones’ aged 93

Valentino Garavani, the renowned Italian fashion designer, passed away on Monday at the age of 93.

Fashion designer Valentino Garavani died today at his home in Rome, with family and friends by his side, according to a post on Instagram by his foundation.

People will be able to pay their respects on Wednesday and Thursday. The funeral will be held in Rome on Friday at 11:00 AM local time (10:00 AM GMT).

Valentino Garavani was born in 1932 in Voghera, a small town near Milan, Italy.

He developed a love for fashion early in life. When he was 17, he went to Paris to study at two renowned schools: the École des Beaux-Arts and the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne.

During the 1950s, Valentino trained with several high-fashion workshops in Paris, developing his skills as a fashion designer.

In 1959, he went back to Italy and launched his own fashion house in Rome. He soon attracted a dedicated following, and one of his earliest and most notable clients was Elizabeth Taylor.

In 1960, Valentino and his business partner, Giancarlo Giammetti, launched the fashion house Valentino.
