Why Dwayne Johnson could return as the Scorpion King in The Mummy 4
I’m hearing some really interesting news! Apparently, Universal is looking at Mark Webber – you know, the guy from ‘The Smashing Machine’ – to play the Scorpion King in the next ‘Mummy’ movie. Daniel Richtman, who’s usually spot-on with these things, is the one reporting it, so it seems pretty credible!
Richtman didn’t say how big Dwayne Johnson’s role would be in The Mummy 4, but he did mention that Universal is hoping to work with him on several future projects. According to Richtman’s update, Universal wants Johnson to return as the Scorpion King and also appear in the next Mummy movie, even if just for a brief appearance.
News of a possible return for Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as the Scorpion King in a fourth Mummy movie follows Johnson’s own statement that he’d like to reprise the role that made him a star in 2001.
In a December 2025 interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actor, who first gained fame as a wrestler, said he’d be open to revisiting his role as the Scorpion King. He emphasized that the franchise belongs to Brendan Fraser, whom he greatly admires and supports. He joked that if the opportunity arose, he knew how to reach the right people and would definitely think about it, adding that the role had been life-changing for him.
Dwayne Johnson first appeared as the Scorpion King (also known as Mathayus) in the 2001 film The Mummy Returns, playing the main villain. Because his performance was so well-received, he got his own movie, The Scorpion King, which came out in 2002.
Although there’s been positive news about a fourth Mummy movie, Universal Pictures hasn’t officially announced whether Brendan Fraser and the original cast will return. They also haven’t given any details about when the movie might be made or released.
