Chris Pratt stars in the new sci-fi thriller, Mercy, out this week. He plays a detective who must prove his innocence after being accused of his wife’s murder. He has just 90 minutes to convince an AI judge (Rebecca Ferguson) before she decides his fate.
Fans watching closely will notice a fun connection to Pratt’s old show, Parks & Recreation. Jay Jackson, who famously played news anchor Perd Hapley on the series, appears as a news anchor in this movie, and Pratt was the one who made it happen.
He shared with Digital Spy that he actually suggested Perd Hapley for the role. He said, ‘I thought we needed Perd, so we got him involved.’

Speaking of reunions, Timur Bekmambetov—who previously directed Wanted, one of Chris Pratt’s earliest film appearances—is also the director of Mercy.
He played a small part in the action movie featuring James McAvoy as an office worker who discovers a secret group of assassins with extraordinary abilities, like manipulating bullets.
Pratt shared that he developed a closer relationship with Timur while working on this new film. He had a much larger role in this project compared to his brief appearance in Wanted, where he was early in his career and only worked for about two weeks. Being the lead in this current film allowed him to spend significantly more time with Timur.
He’s consistently been a pioneer in visual style, starting with his work on Night Watch, and continues to be today.
