The DC Universe began with Superman, but James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, has confirmed that Batman will eventually be part of the franchise. Batman and Robin (Damian Wayne) are planned to team up in a movie called The Brave and The Bold, though a release date hasn’t been announced yet. It’s important to note that this new DC Universe will be separate from The Batman: Part II, directed by Matt Reeves, which is scheduled to release on October 1, 2027.
While a release date exists for the other film, The Brave and the Bold doesn’t have one yet, and the actor who will play Batman in the DCU hasn’t been chosen. When asked about updates, James Gunn was honest about where the film stands in production.

As a huge movie fan, I get why it’s tough to say when a project will happen – it all depends on having a script that really clicks. He explained on Threads that he can’t even guess a timeline, because it’s so unpredictable. Plus, he’s already deep into making the second Batman movie and doesn’t want to start talking about anything else until that’s further along – he wants to keep the focus on that for now. He also pointed out how a script can seem almost finished, but then you get a new draft and realize it needs just a little more work – it’s a constant process of refinement!
Besides The Brave and the Bold and The Batman: Part II, Gotham City will also be the setting for other upcoming DC movies. A film centered around the villain Clayface is scheduled to come out later this year. Plus, an animated movie featuring the first two Robins – Dick Grayson and Jason Todd – is planned for release in 2028.
Although Clayface takes place within the main DC Universe storyline, Dynamic Duo will be a separate, alternative story. James Gunn recently confirmed that despite talk of making the animation fit into the established canon, it won’t be happening, responding to a fan question with a simple “no.”
As a huge Batman fan, I’m so excited about all the new stuff DC has planned! We don’t have a date for The Brave and the Bold yet, but it’s great to know there’s plenty more coming. We’ll get The Batman: Part II in October 2027, and even before that, Clayface is scheduled for September 11, 2026. Plus, they’re planning a Dynamic Duo movie for June 30, 2028! It’s a fantastic time to be a Bat-fan.
