After the successful movie debut of Superman in the DC Universe, fans are eager to see Batman and Wonder Woman join the franchise. James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, has stated that both characters are planned for the future, but actors to play them haven’t been chosen yet.
James Gunn recently addressed reports about actors auditioning for both hero and villain roles in the upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. He clarified on Threads that the rumors about auditions for Batman and Wonder Woman are not true, responding directly to a fan’s question on the topic.

James Gunn also clarified that there aren’t any major DC casting reveals planned beyond the announcement of Brainiac. He explained that most of the other significant roles will be filled by characters audiences have already seen, while casting for smaller parts is currently underway.
He suggested the rumors likely started because they’re casting a female character for MoT, and people are guessing it could be Wonder Woman. Others speculated the role might be Starfire, Big Barda, or Jenny Sparks, all characters connected to future DC Universe plans.
Okay, so everyone’s buzzing about who should play Batman and Wonder Woman, and the rumor mill is working overtime. For Batman, I’m seeing everything from Jonathan Bailey – yes, that Jonathan Bailey – to Brandon Sklenar, and even a push for a Smallville alum in Tom Welling. On the Wonder Woman front, Alexandra Daddario is still a frontrunner, but Melissa Barrera is definitely being talked about as a strong possibility too. It’s a lot of names, and honestly, it’s going to be fascinating to see who they ultimately land on.
Last year, while talking about Wonder Woman and the changes made to the Justice League’s history in season 2 of Peacemaker, James Gunn said Wonder Woman will appear in the DC Universe at some point. However, he wasn’t sure if she currently exists within the established timeline.
What’s really exciting is how different this is from the way he’s handling Batman and all the characters around him – heroes and villains alike. We’re even getting a Clayface movie later this year! And it doesn’t stop there – there are two Batman-related projects officially confirmed. The first, The Brave and the Bold, will show Bruce Wayne teaming up with his son, Damian, as Robin, and it’s all part of the main DC Universe storyline, which is fantastic.
The second project is an animated stop-motion film called Dynamic Duo, focusing on the first two characters to take on the role of Robin: Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. While Jason Todd’s story isn’t fully established within the main DC storyline, he probably won’t play a major role in the upcoming live-action DC Universe.
Even though fans will have to be patient for news about who will play these roles, the good news is that both Batman and Wonder Woman will definitely be part of the new DC Universe. James Gunn has confirmed they will appear, so it’s just a matter of timing.
